Direction to use on different fabrics
Dress Shirts The most important thing to remember
when ironing dress shirts is to iron in one direction. Spray with Plu Iron Starch
gently over the dress shirts, and start ironing beginning from underarm area.
Centering around the sewing stitch line, decide which direction you want to
iron.
- Front : Wide area has to be ironed consistently in one dirrection. The most
recommendable way is to iron at a slanted angle.
- Pocket : Iron beginning from the upper part.
- Front Button Hole Area : Pull the top part to make the button line straight
and tight before start ironing.
- Collar : Start from the edges on both left and right and iron towards the
center area. Pull on end with your hand to make collar straight, and start
ironing from the opposite side. The collar will fold naturally when you fold
the area back after ironing.
- Cuffs : Gently iron beginning from inside. If you place the cuff area at
the end of the iron board, it will be easier. After ironing cuffs area, move
on to the shoulder area.
Skirt When steam ironing - Avoid direct contact
on the fabric, Iron slightly away from the fabric.
- Flurry skirt : Measure the length of the flurries, and lift up the iron
so it won't contact the flurries.
- Lined skirt : Make usre to align both the lining and external fabric in
order to prevent losing the ideal shape of the skirt. Iron in one direction
- from the bottom to top.
Velvet Materials Shiny velvet materials have to
be ironed with a cover on top. When pressured too much, the fabric may be damaged
and the shiny material may melt on the iron.
- When Ironing Inside Out : No covering fabric is necessary. Apply slight
pressure to the iron and iron in one direction
- After Ironing : Brush the external velvet fabric in order to bring about
the sheen. This will make it lok like new.
Trousers The front pleat lines are the most important
points. Form and straight out the front pleat line, hold it tight, and pull
to make it straight. Then start ironing in one direction. After the front pleat
lines are ironed move on to the pleat lines on the back. Instead of pusing the
iron over the waste line, try to press the iron down gently over the trouser.
- Deformed Trouser with Stretched Knee Area : Place a wet towel inside the
stretched knee area, and iron with a little pressure down the area. Turn the
trouser inside out, and repeat the same treatment.
